APOD: Umbra World (2012 Dec 14)

Post by APOD Robot » Fri Dec 14, 2012 5:06 am

Image Umbra World

Explanation: On the morning of November 14, sky gazers from around the world gathered on this little planet to stand in the dark umbral shadow of the Moon. Of course, the Moon cast the shadow during last month's total solar eclipse, and the little planet is actually a beach on Green Island off the coast of Queensland, Australia. The picture itself, the first little planet projection of a total solar eclipse, is a digitally warped and stitched wrap-around of 8 images covering 360x180 degrees. To make it, the intrepid photographer had to remember to shoot both toward and away(!) from the eclipse during the excitement of totality. Near this little planet's horizon, the eclipsed Sun is just above center, surrounded by the glowing solar corona. Venus can be spotted toward the top of the frame. At bottom right, bright star Sirius shines at the tip of an alarmingly tall tree.

Gee, i haven't been to 'Umbra World', in a very long time. I remember being in it, i think just after noon-time. The darkness was neat :!: I think it was in the 1980's, or 90's, but not sure.

What I particularly like about this APOD is the "watery feeling" of the "little planet". I'm reminded of a very tiny water world sailing like an ark in the cosmic ocean.

With remembrance of, and thanks to, French pilot Saint-Exupéry who discovered the first of the Little Planets.

If you lived on such a small planet, and was able to scale such an alarmingly tall tree growing on it, I actually think you could touch the sky. Alternatively, you could touch Sirius, whichever is farthest away.

The Little Prince is in pop-up now. You can touch the sky!

Dennis, Awesome! Thank you for the seminars you continue to teach. I learned so much about a variety of things, including photography! Your annular eclipse with the palm tree is forever one of my favorites.

Tootles,
Diana

BTW - I enjoyed the clever Mayan reference to tomorrow’s APOD.
tak saamal; meaning see you later! Ta ta!
Probably in reference to the end of world scenario
Ya suppose it's in reference to the calendar end!
I think it means "until tomorrow"... which I thought to be a funny way of referencing the end of the 13th baktun... which also ends the Mayan calendar... which, yes, has been feared by some to mean the end of the world. But if you're Mayan, it also marks the beginning of the 14th baktun... which needs a calendar to calm the fears of folks that fear such things.

Last Total Solar Eclipse Before the Closing of the Cycle
13 November (Self-Existing 27, Kin 169, Red Cosmic Moon)

The Galactic I Ching Perpetual 28-day Creation Cycle (see CHC, Vol VI): Codon 29/23: Heart/Moon
Crystal informed by Moon of Time, Space flows as cosmic awareness within moon of time. The divination reads:
Click to play embedded YouTube video.
  • Seek no recognitions in the shadows of mind
In the absence of sun comes illusions of space
Fill the moon with visions of light
38 days before the Closing of the Cycle, we enter consciously into the play of light and shadow, contraction and expansion, yin and yang, masculine and feminine. This absolutely synchronizes with the seal of the day of this event: Kin 169, Red Cosmic Moon, to transcend and purify the flow of emotions.

The eclipse also breaks linear time, as it occurs in the day of the Cosmic Moon over most of the world, whilst simultaneously occurring in the Bioregion of the Night as the dawning of the day of the Magnetic Dog signifying the unity of love.

Being the last eclipse to occur before the closing of the cycle, its significance represents a handing over or passing over from the old paradigm of male dominance to a new order, the feminine, that of unconditional love and compassion.

Practice the Rainbow Bridge Meditation with your communities and finish with the Whole Earth Meditation to align your mind to this event.
