APOD: Dusty Nebulae in Taurus (2013 Jul 11)

Post by APOD Robot » Thu Jul 11, 2013 4:05 am

Image Dusty Nebulae in Taurus

Explanation: This complex of dusty nebulae linger along the edge of the Taurus molecular cloud, a mere 450 light-years distant. Stars are forming on the cosmic scene, including extremely youthful star RY Tauri prominent toward the upper left of the 1.5 degree wide telescopic field. In fact RY Tauri is a pre-main sequence star, embedded in its natal cloud of gas and dust, also cataloged as reflection nebula vdB 27. Highly variable, the star is still relatively cool and in the late phases of gravitational collapse. It will soon become a stable, low mass, main sequence star, a stage of stellar evolution achieved by our Sun some 4.5 billion years ago. Another pre-main sequence star, V1023 Tauri, can be spotted below and right, embedded in its yellowish dust cloud adjacent to the striking blue reflection nebula Ced 30.

The wind is blowing harder now,
Blowing dust into my eyes.
The dust settles on my skin,
Making a crust I cannot move in
And I'm hovering like a fly, waiting for the windshield on the freeway

If you are in a crust that you cannot move in, how could you be hovering, waiting for the windshield?
Shouldn't you be laying on the road, waiting for the tire?

Funny you should mention that... I wondered the same thing but in "word" Art, the words are not always to be taken literally... word Art is not just full of imagery but also metaphor... "wind" could be time as we travel through life... "dust crust" could be the sometimes crippling baggage we accumulate in our journey’s struggle... ultimately leaving us with little hope for survival wherein we are smacked by death (the windshield) like a fly (a helpless state) if we can’t keep up/overcome, etc., ... ergo Art does not always make logical sense like a scientist... but instead branches into aesthetic visual, emotional and motional avenues... sometimes forcing us to imagine the unimaginable

Yeah, i see your point, but not when imagining black holes. It's just too dark in there to see anything.

Yeah, Art's been doing that for years. I didn't know you knew him so well.

When Ed says: "Art is.. full of... metaphor" ... "metaphor" is a euphemism.

Art is full of mind...
Astronomically seasoned
Outlandishly reasoned
Beyond the grip of night’s boundary

Awww… you just like it ‘cause it has your name in it

Here is a metaphorical breakdown of my word Art...

Art is full of mind... (Art is smart... how else do you explain his incredible ability to conjunct anything)
Astronomically seasoned (Art is old... and knows a thing or two about Astronomy)
Outlandishly reasoned (Art has some impressive ideas and likes to argue... especially with Chris)
Beyond the grip of night’s boundary (I could be wrong, but Art does not appear to have bouts with depression)

Right about now, I'm thinking that this Artful section is going to get hung in a different thread by an Admin. We haven't mentioned the 'Dusty Bull' for quite a while.
Art doesn't like to just hang around without having any fun. I think there's been a couple of movies made about what Art does in a museum at night. Art can also be very educational. Of course, you may be educated in ways you weren't pursuing, but what the heck, it's free. :D
