APOD: Diamond Ring in a Cloudy Sky (2017 Aug 25)

Image Diamond Ring in a Cloudy Sky

Explanation: As the Moon's shadow swept across the US on August 21, eclipse chasers in the narrow path of totality were treated to a diamond ring in the sky. At the beginning and end of totality, the fleeting and beautiful effect often produces audible gasps from an amazed audience. It occurs just before or after the appearance of the faint solar corona with a brief ring of light and glimpse of Sun. In this scene from the end of totality at Central, South Carolina, clouds drift near the Sun's diamond ring in the sky.

Yeah.... "This diamond ring doesn't shine for me any more, and This diamond ring doesn't mean what it did before.....la, la, la, something, something..." Old Song....

BUT THIS Diamond Ring was pretty nice.... and so were mine in a clear sky...my neighbor's is also great...

Mine is bottom...neighbor's is top...

I was preoccupied with the Samsung camera or I might have thought to take off the Solar Filter from the telescope and got some totality shots...but they would have been close ups of just areas... as it was, once totality happened, the telescope images went dark...they did not light up with the Corona....as it was, it was good to have the Samsung... though they are a bit zoomed in on mine....

Sunspots are something you can see most any day but, during the pre and post total phase, they added to the enjoyment. 8-)

I'd say! Nice imaging. I wish I had had a better ability to sharp focus. Slightly off on all my images but getting closer. Too many variables to juggle in a short period of time. Sky and Telescope had some recommendations, added to your previous suggestions, that helped. Any suggestions for editing a video? I think mine was overexposed and was curious if if could be saved :?:

Really, really good picture. :ssmile: You caught the Cheshire cat grin perfectly. Any dentist will want to work on the cavity and try to improve the cat's grin.
