Comet Lovejoy (C/2013 R1) reached perihelion (its closest approach to the Sun) December 22, 2013. This image, taken more than a week later, shows the comet is still active. Lovejoy is a long-period comet. It won’t return for some 7,000 years. (4-inch Takahashi 106ED refractor at f/5, SBIG STL-11000M CCD camera, LRGB image with exposures of 25, 10, 7.5, and 7.5 minutes, respectively, taken December 31, 2013, between 3h10m UT and 4h25m UT).

A starless, Great Orion Nebula.
A run of cloudy nights has led me to this.
But I do like how you can see the image from a slightly different perspective now.
The original image was taken through my ED127 and captured with a CDS1100d. 3hr and 20min of exposure time. Stacked in DSS and processed in CS3.
Thanks for looking,
Jeanette

And here is this season's obligatory M42.
3hrs and 20min of data, not including the 10sec and 30sec subs I took for the core.
Sadly the seeing has been atrocious so the stars in the Trap aren't as nice as I would have liked them.
Scope - ED127
Camera - CDS1100D
Stacked in DSS and processed in CS3.
Thanks for looking,
Jeanette.

IC 410 the Tadpoles
http://coatesastrophotography.com/
Copyright: Steven Coates
IC 410 an emission nebula about 12,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Auriga. Near the center of the nebulous region is a star cluster ( NGC 1893) and just to the bottom right of this cluster lies two structures that resemble tadpoles. These structures are made of leftover hydrogen and dust from the formation of the star cluster and the "tails" are from the solar wind coming from the stars of NGC 1893.
Imaged from Ocala, Florida through Ha, OIII and SII filters and processed using Hubble palette, assigning SII to RED, OIII to BLUE and Ha to GREEN.
20 minute exposures combined to a total of:
4 hours Ha (binned 1x1)
2 hours and 20 min OIII (binned 1x1)
2 hours and 20 min SII (binned 1x1)
Processed in Photoshop CS5 using Hubble palette
Imaging telescope: Astro-Tech 8" Ritchey-Chrétien
Imaging camera: QSI 683 wsg-8
