I don't suppose I'll ever see one of these in an APOD but they could help one scoot around in another realm. 8-)

When I said larger wheels; this is what i meant!https://www.google.com/search?q=kick+sc ... awKHQ9oApY It's a scooter, not a bike! What Art showed was a bike! Anyway; they were a lot of fun! 8-) Yes; I believe they would take The old one!

I love staying off-topic. :D
So, I see what you're saying. There is a company called Kickbike Worldwide, based in Helsinki.
Their contraptions are fairly expensive. https://kickbike.com/

But I bet they'd gladly take Art's old one in trade.

Sparks are flying! :lol2:

Oh Ann, when I was a kid; that was a scooter!

Only mine had bigger wheels!

Big wheels indeed! I saw one of those in an old movie once; but can't remember the movie!

In Swedish, this sort of vehicle is called a "spark-cykel". So obviously the brilliant Swedes have figured out that you Americans call it a "kick-bike".

Obviously!

I've never heard it called that; but who knows! Not as big as art showed--- maybe that would be a kick bike! Anyway it was a lot of fun! O.K. I looked it up: a kick scooter!

Got to hand it to you, Art. I'm impressed!

A "kick-scooter", indeed! And talk about "big wheels"!!

A kickbike (or footbike) is a kicksled for summer, when there's no snow. It is a kind of scooter, I suppose.

That's too bad. They probably don't work very well on pavement.
Would this count? Youtube motorized sled
That takes away the whole idea of the "spark", doesn't it? The kick!

I suppose that if you ran out of gas, you could use the old-fashioned kick to move your sled.
I guess there is a local band in Malmo, called "Spark!"
I found a couple of samples of their music, but ... they were awful.

I'll take your word for it.

I lived far up north when I was a kid, and I had a "spark", of course. Everyone did.
Have you "lost your spark" :?:

Haven't had one since we moved here.

No sparks here.

Is that a delicious-beverage holder I see on the sled?

Oh, that's what a kicksled is. Thanks Ann. I was looking for the sled in the picture. All I could see was an old wooden rocking chair. Here in Canada we think sleds are flat bench like things with skies instead of legs. Kind of like the Olympic luge but with a handle or ropes that can be pulled by the parents or dogs such as a dog sled.

Kind of an "Ice Skateboard"....cool...

I like this picture...and it got me thinking as it is a "rustic" shot of olden days...but the sky has not always looked the same to humans down through the ages...but...the STARS are the same stars, though some went SN, but might not have been visible before that anyway...the MOON, is the same Moon... Everyone who ever looked up and had a chance to see... saw the same Moon, and Stars, even some of the same Comets...if not exactly the same pole star or constellations as we do, being in slightly different positions...and this image invoked that thought... AMAZES me...
5000b.c. Rigel is a-kilter...but it is still Rigel...whatever they called it... I wonder if the Witch Nebula would be nearby, or did Rigel wander more or less near it???

Thought provoking....

The Earthly scenery in this particular APOD is from Sweden, and I very much enjoyed the seeing the "kicksled" as it is called in the caption. We called it a "spark", literally "kick", or "sparkstötting", which might be translated as something that you lean on while you kick. I lived far up north when I was a kid, and I had a "spark", of course. Everyone did.

Awesome Ann...Thanks!

Image Cabin under the Stars

Explanation: Gocka's, a family nickname for the mountain cabin, and a wooden sled from a generation past stand quietly under the stars. The single exposure image was taken on January 6 from Tanndalen Sweden to evoke a simple visual experience of the dark mountain skies. A pale band of starlight along the Milky Way sweeps through the scene. At the foot of Orion the Hunter, bright star Rigel shines just above the old kicksled's handrail. Capella, alpha star of Auriga the celestial charioteer, is the brightest star at the top of the frame. In fact, the familiar stars of the winter hexagon and the Pleiades star cluster can all be found in this beautiful skyscape from a northern winter night.
