Sat in the garden with my two 8 & 13 year old daughters last night and watched the sky wasnt long before we saw a meteor flash :) every 5mins or so. And what a amazing site. They couldnt stop talking about it today.
That was a magical moment that we wont forget.

Thanks APOD

No big deal but the caption and writeup has been updated and significantly corrected since the first two posters pointed out the error!

The image and caption are correct in both presentation and designation. Bad BUOYS (got the name correct this time  ) is an observant reader.

Nice copter gif.

You are right in that the caption speaks of getting out and observing the Perseid Shower.
But the animated gif they use to demonstrate a fireball is cited as being of the Leonid.

Looks like we have a rare error on APOD. The video itself reveals it was a Leonid fireball on 18th November 2001, yet the caption and write up claim its a Perseid

WHOOPS  !

by jmckee » Fri Aug 12, 2005 5:59 am

The video itself says november 18th

Perseid?

On the Aug 12th APOD, the description says its a perseid, but isnt mid to late november the leonids? Im confused!
