Oct 9 vs Oct 10

Actually, here on the W coast, the new APOD appears at 9PM the previous evening so I just grabbed the current date when I ID'd the pic just after it was posted. Seems the astronomers figured it out OK and all is well.

Thanks.

Misspelled Title (APOD 2008 Oct 10)

Shouldn't it be Trailing instead of Tailing in the title on Tues, Oct 9?

Keep up the wonderful work!

Re: APOD of June 15, 2005, Cassiopeia A

But doesn't the glow occur when the ambient dust, i.e. dust that is already there, is heated by some sort of energy itself presumably traveling at the speed of light? This energy started 262.5 (325 - 125/2) yrs after the supernova? Wonder what caused that. Even supernova ejecta do not move at the sp...

APOD of June 15, 2005, Cassiopeia A

What a great picture! I think it raises three questions though: If the supernova occurred 325 years ago, why doesn't the size of Cassiopeia A as measured by the glow caused by the main shock span 650 light years instead of 125? What phenomena are represented by which false colors? Could the main poi...
