Re: APOD: A Dust Devil on Mars (2015 Mar 03)

This link, here, states that there are streaks left from tracks of the martain dust devils, but I'm wondering why there are no tracks in today's image? Is it because the image was captured right as the dust devil formed?

Definitely an amazing image, though!

Re: APOD: Love and War by Moonlight (2015 Feb 26)

Is it difficult to predict when Venus may occult Mars as seen from Earth? They were obviously very close February 22nd but I can't find a future prediction for another occultation of that type. A Wiki search of "History of Mars observation" lists the below. "On October 13, 1590, the ...

This is a very pretty image.

I watched a good bit of the eclipse from my parking lot at work - though I might've looked a bit strange standing out there with binoculars. Totally worth it, though.

I would love to be somewhere dark enough to see the zodiacal light. Beautiful image!
And seeing images from the southern hemisphere mixes me up sometimes, as they're 'upside down' compared to what I'm used to seeing!

I don't quite understand the color code. The captions says that "green areas are rich with white-dot galaxies". There are no white dots at about 9 o' clock, which implies to me that the cyan represents "empty". What does, then, the dark blue next to the image center stand for? B...

Is the star WR 124 six light years across, or the image? That is my question, too. One link in the description, this one ., states "WR 124 is ten times the radius of the sun", which sounds more likely, IMO. Interesting image, and though I haven't clicked through all the links yet, the one...

I'll take people's word for it that this is an interesting APOD. I can't really get to it. Bits and pieces from time to time, but mostly just server timeouts from the Italian source site. How about following the usual APOD approach of the main page image being a static image hosted here, and the cl...
