Re: Seeing Space Shuttle land in California

Okay, I found NASA - STS-125 Landing Ground Tracks which shows that the shuttle won't fly over greater LA this trip.

Seeing Space Shuttle land in California

The space shuttle will land in California in about an hour and a half from now. When it does, I would like to see it fly overhead if possible. The last shuttle mission landed at Edwards (where I was born). It flew roughly south to north over Los Angeles on it's way to landing. I think I saw it when ...

Re: Fireball over Edmonton (2008 Nov 25)

Since this is from youtube, I assume it requires Flash. I assume that is why the additional links don't work for me.

I have avoided letting Flash get installed because it is often used for obnoxious and intrusive commercials.

Are you agreeing with Case that the page is working for you? If so, then that contradicts your other comment(s). If the page is not working ...

I'm Confused. I don't understand how that is possible, unless you are getting a different version of the page than the rest of us do.

I have not looked at the HTML cloesly, but the following portion of HTML from the May 11 APOD is missing from the May 12 APOD, except with obvious modifications relevant to the May 12 APOD. Note that the missing HTML has the ending ">" which confuses the HTML parser and that causes the ima...

I cannot see it.

I did read.

You are assuming that I can see it and that I did not read.

I am tired of people thinking they are smarter than they really are. These forums are a magnet for them.

A Vist from Atlantis (APOD 28 June 2007)

In the remarkable image of the space shuttle orbiter Atlantis docked with the International Space Station, I don't see the shuttle, so if you don't see it you are not the only one. I looked at the high resolution version too and did not see the shuttle.

Re: how can ????????????

The black hole cannot be seen because it's gravitational pull is so strong that nothing can escape, not even light. That has been said many times before. So it appears black because any light that may be inside cannot escape. Saying " appears black " implies it can be seen. What I am sayi...

Re: how can ????????????

How can you see something behind something you can't see ? :D What is the definition of " can't see "? If it is that something is transparent, then obviously we should be able to see something on the other side. That however is not the definition here, so I think that since objects on the...

You have probably come to the wrong place for this , Confused. You are in the wrong place to religiously insist that your way is the right way. So is what you have a theory (as that word is used in science)? I don't think so. I am confident that the experts would see merit in what I say instead of ...

Fast Stars Near the Galactic Center (APOD 14 Jan 2007)

The APOD description says " over one million times the mass of our Sun is somehow confined to a region less than a fifth of a light-year across ". How does the object (black hole or whatever) at the center of our galaxy compare in size to our Sun? I assume that our Sun is much, much smalle...

{I am replying to fatcitymax.} Why is water a reason to go to Mars? Is it that water makes it more likely that life exists? I think the (potential) discovery of life is a good reason to send unmanned missions until we have discovered enough that manned missions are productive. The subject of water ...

The picture shows a rockfall uncovering lighter colored soil, not evidence of water flow. That is clearly a very steep incline. That sure sounds like a reasonable potential explanation. I am not a geologist or anything like that but the media sure likes to emphasize the dramatic. If NASA says it is...

Light Deposits, Water Flowing on Mars (APOD 12 Dec 2006)

This is for the APOD for 2006 December 12 , but evidently there is not enough room for the title and date in the subject field. I hope it is appropriate for me to start this thread. My comment is that I am interested in the skeptics. What are the chances that it was not water? What other theories ar...
