when i see pictures of what appear to be densely packed star fields such as today's picture of the milky way, i wonder how close to each other those stars are. if i was on a planet in the midst of those stars, would i be seeing a lot of nearby "suns", say a few dozen, or would all the near...

i'd like to make apod to be my computer screen background, so that each days new picture is automatically displayed. is this possible? i have windows xp-sp2.
btw, andromeda continues to be my fav apod.

ahhhhhh......i see. ty. after reading more about runaway stars and interstellar medium, it seems you are right. its all about the runaway star going against the grain/flow of the surrounding material. interesting. jy
