I have no idea how I forgot to observe this event. There was No occultation for my area, just a very close together as in the picture as the moon sets

Very nice photo. While the moon looks more or less the same as many other photos from Earth the background makes this image unique. I wrote a post with a collection of Earth from Space photos, and while this is from near space, I added it.

I am glad it is a moon of Saturn and not Alde(ba)ran ...

It is not a misconception. It is absloutly true provided that you are in the southern hemisphere!

I have the National Geographic map of Mars from Feb 2001. The hole appears clearly there. Of course I never noted it before, it is there and resamble the strucutre seen in this photo. Try to look for the map in te NG site.
