Re: Black Hole Binary Systems (APOD 09 Nov 2008)

I guess that the paths of the jets tell a good story about how the holes are orbiting each other. You can see exactly where one is heading in nearly the same direction as the jets and when it starts moving back the opposite way. I wouldn't have guessed it to be this way.

I recommend you consider your target audience. If you're aiming for that 20-something audience, things like Digg and other social networking sites could be very good for bringing in those types of people. As for worries about digg being a commercial website... well, no one said they didn't want to m...

I am pretty sure I went to this place in 2001 but I don't remember the painting. It seems for some reason we weren't allowed to go far into the church. There may have been a service going on at the time. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info on the place, particularly not in english. I rememb...

You are incorrigible. It is possible, I admit to that, but it is also highly unlikely. This is something like looking at two photos of the same person and claiming that the second photo of that same person is a manipulation because the people look the same. Edit: By the way, I'd be interested in see...

Amendment to my statement that there are no signs of manipulation on Bud's photo: There is one line on the left side. This is a stitch line that went unnoticed. To make a panorama sometimes photographers take several photographs of the same scene and stitch them together. This can produce a higher r...

You are right, Photoshop can be used to manipulate photos. However, you should not take a photographer's integrity so lightly. First, check the photographer's website for his other photography. His name is Bud Kuenzli, believe it or not he is a real person and you can find many of his other aurora p...

Aviatress, please explain in depth what you mean and include images to illustrate what you mean. I expect to see a similar end result to the APOD photo from you. Given your expertise on the subject it should be no problem.

I still think that you are overly presumptuous and even arrogant in thinking that "someone from another country" only " might " access APOD. I would venture to guess that people from around the world visit APOD just as much as people in the USA. Sweden has a huge population of ne...

You are making too many assumptions. If I didn't know you're just being naive I would think you are insulting. For the record there are many instances in which "miles" are used instead: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aantwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov+miles Whichever is used probably depends on w...

I don't read either, and that was a mediocre analogy at best. Really, there are just some topics I have no input on but still like to read. Is that hard to understand? My problem with harry is that he rarely, if ever, elucidates on anything. He acts passive aggressive rather and, if anything, obfusc...

You can just erase the quote if you don't want it there in the message body before you submit. Or you can find the little buttons at the top and bottom of a thread that say "post reply" ... phpbb isn't designed so that you only reply to a single person. Rather, you just write a reply to a ...

Well, personally, I was only thinking about how impossible it is to get a good "image", like, say, the photos we have of close ups of the sun's sun spots, jupiter, saturn and saturn's moons, mars, etc... it's really superficial and not scientific at all. More of an insatiable interest than...
