The infrared data is not included in this image. Or am I misunderstanding you? I'm actually putting together a visible + IR image out of the freshly released FITS data right now! Maybe not. When you follow the Fast Facts link for this image it suggests (strongly) otherwise. But I think that the lit...

"Craggily" is not a word. You mean craggy or cragged. Every author of English is afforded the opportunity to create new words, which may or may not enter popular usage. I think "craggily" is a rather nice word. You're so right, Chris, but not only that, "craggily" IS a...

Re: APOD Assessment Poll: Novelty
I hadn't seen it anywhere on the Internet, but I did see a portion of the clip on a TV news show, probably on Al Jazeera, BBC American, NBC News, MSNBC or CNN.

Re: APOD: Stereo Itokawa (2010 Jun 19)
Two or three times, I've sought out online vendors of cheap—like $5 a pair—red/blue viewing glasses, sent money and gotten nothing in return. Can anyone point me to a vendor that will actually send me glasses when I purchase them? Or any national retail chains that sell them?
Thanks!
Hugh

Saturn's Hyperion: A Moon with Odd Craters (2009 Jan 18)
Am I imagining it, or under most of the odd looking craters in this photo are there the remains of a huge crater covering something like two-thirds of Hyperion's visible surface?

Re: In Saturn's shadow (1/11/09)
A very cogent explanation, Art, and one that would probably never have occurred to me. Thanks!

Re: In Saturn's shadow (1/11/09)
Also, why is the inner edge of the inner ring that's in Saturn's shadow offset from the one that's not in shadow? Surely, we're not seeing more through light that's reflected off the rings, then off the planet and finally back through the rings than we're seeing through scattered direct sunlight. BT...

Streaks and spots?
I notice some light-colored—possibly yellowish—horizontal streaks and spots, most prominently near the terminator toward the right (North) end of the image. I assume these are photographic artifacts. Just the right of center I see some ripples like one might find in a dry riverbed or along the beach...
