Re: Recent Submissions

Hi Ann,

thanks for your nice words! It's the first image I have taken with my new telescope. I hope, it will be an APOD candidate. ;)

Re: Recent Submissions

Hi, here's an image I took yesterday with my 254/1200 Newton Telescope and my EOS 550D. It shows the sunspots 1260 (more Spots) and 1261 (larger Spots). The sun and the background are edited differently using GIMP, so you can see the sunspots clearly (also the places where the solar matter has falle...

Discussing a Theory

Hello, I set up a theory about the effect of space-time on our view of massive objects. In general it says that more massive objects appear to be smaller than they really are because they bend space-time outwards. I recently wrote a small blog entry about this and want to know what you think about t...

I just found this new image of 2001 Mars Odyssey:

Has anyone of you an idea of what this light material on the edge of the mountains could be?

Re: APOD: A Sun Halo Beyond Stockholm (2011 Jan 10)

If you look closely, you can even find another ring outside the main ring. It lies about twice the radius of the main ring and is especially visible on the horizon. If you cannot see the second ring, try to watch your screen from another angle than usually. (f.i. from the side). Then, the ring comes...

22° (Double-)Halo around the Sun

Hello, This image shows a quite rare sky phenomenon. You can see a so-called 22° halo around the sun. The special feature on this image is, that there is a second halo visible on the left side of the sun. If you look closely, you can find a bird flying in front of the halo at 12:00. The Moon

I have this new image on my image selection : img02.jpg [/url] This image shows our fascinating neighbor - the moon. The image was taken from the panorama terrace on mount Kahlenberg in close vicinity to Vienna, the capital of Austria. Although within easy reach, it's not the best observing destinat...

Re: Cloud Formation

Well,

it seems as if there were more planes and birds than I realized while taking the photo. In my opinion, it makes the photo quite interesting!

Re: Cloud Formation

Hello beyond,

I didn't find the red line you pointed out on the picture. Perhaps, you can mark it for me.

The other object, you have found, is probably a plane or a bird. You have to know that lake Neusiedler See lies near to the Vienna International Airport and is a place for thousands of birds.

Cloud Formation

Hello, here is one of my latest Sky Images : img01.jpg This image shows a cloud formation above lake Neusiedler See in Burgenland/Austria/Europe. The point of view is the small city Rust in Burgenland. The image is looking into western direction. On the upper left of the image, you can see planet Ve...

Well, it was a quite hard decision. But in the end I decided for #2 because of the high resolution and the nice colors!
I like the SN, too! I see that it was hard work to create these images!

Re: APOD: Station and Shuttle Transit the Sun (2010 May 23)

Why is the background black? Perhaps I did not get your question... but usually there is no stronger light source behind or beside the sun that could cause a lighter background. Hence it is black because you also don't see stars due to the filter(s) used to prevent the eyes or the camera of damages...

Although it was a very hard choice, I voted for #3 because of the odd shape of the galaxy!
