I'd heard the bit about leading/trailing edges and refraction before, and it made sense so I never really stopped to do the math. But now, according to the "nearly 12 hours" link, it says the total for refraction and "semidiameter" (what ever happened to "radius"? :ssmi...

A lovely picture, and I applaud the photographer for the extra artistic efforts. But does the caption really refer to Venus as a "star"? :wink:

Interestingly, I made a grilled cheese sandwich this afternoon, and when I flipped it, lo and behold!, an equally impressive image of North America. If you squint and hold it up to the light wrong, that is. I'll be posting it for sale on Ebay later...

Has anyone noticed that by using red/blue 3D glasses and tilting your head to the right, the 3 suns converge and form an image of the Virgin Mary?

Just wondering...
