Re: "Pictured in inverted black & white"

I'm puzzled. Why are the solar prominences bright, instead of dark, if it's inverted? And why is the sun surrounded by a bright halo in the image on the right, but not on the left? The image is not inverted, just the face of the Sun. Alan's workflow involves masking and selective inversion. Not sur...

Re: APOD: Orange Sun Sparking (2014 May 06)

Greetings and thanks for the discussion of my image featured in today's APOD. The "normal" tonality image linked above is a good illustration of two possible variations in processing the same data - but it is an APOD dating from 2011. http://www.avertedimagination.com/img_pages/solar_nirva...

http://www.avertedimagination.com/images/Jupiter@opposition_2010.jpg This may be election season in the U.S., but there is no debate here - Jupiter rules the night sky! Re: APOD: Orange Sun Simmering (2010 Jun 09)

Can someone explain how this image was made? I get that it was taken with an H-alpha filter, but how was it then "false-colored" and "color inverted?" Were two other identical images used but the brightness/contrast changed for each and were then merged as an "RGB?" I'...

Re: 6 Years of Saturn (2009 September 4)

A couple of observations on the images: First, the title of the page is "6 Years of Saturn" with a reference in the caption that they represent 2004-2009, from lower right to upper left. But there are seven images. If the images were taken one year apart, wouldn't the first (lower right) ...
