I kept wondering about the rescue shuttles that needed to be ready with all the talk of "last" flights recently - it turns out that if Atlantis is too damaged for re-entry, there really won't be a rescue shuttle, the crew will instead eventually return from the ISS via Soyuz craft . Doug H...

brown areas indicate regolith that has been chemically altered by exposure to the solar wind during micrometeorite impacts. I don't understand the "during micrometeorite impacts" part. Why wouldn't it be altered by the solar wind at other times? Is it that only subsurface material is chem...
