Re: Submission: 2019 April

Friday morning at 9:28UTC, the resupply cargo Cygnus NG-11 (Northrop-Grumman / Thales Alenia Space) docked to the Canadarm2 articulated arm, while the ISS was flying over northern France at 28000 km/h. It is at this precise moment that I took a photo of their transit in front of the Sun: the small c...

Re: APOD: NGC 6357: The Lobster Nebula (2017 Feb 07)

I would have been good to precise that the round colored halos around all bright stars are not nebulas but reflections in the optics! They are very visible and I think that's confusing for most people.

Re: APOD: ISS and Mercury Too (2016 May 13)

Unfortunately, TLE predictions (which Calsky uses) are not accurate enough for reliable , precision conjunction assessments like a satellite / planet overlap, and ground track accuracy typically is better nearer, or even prior, to the TLE epoch. In addition, a large, LEO satellite like the ISS adds...

I was also amazed when I first saw this one. Still amazed now. Mr Legault has a habit of amazing me. And I bet he put additional thought into his position, so as to avoid the possibility of the ISS lining up with Mercury and potentially obscuring it. Actually I used the Calsky calculation for the t...
