Re: APOD: Black Holes of Known Mass (2017 Jun 02)

I think in the space around us (i.e. our own galaxy), should be way more smaller black holes, gliding around around and (maybe) way more often, that gigantic solar masses collide to form black holes, so one should expect a "background noise" way higher than the one detected? LIGO is only s...

Re: APOD: Black Holes of Known Mass (2017 Jun 02)

I'm impressed about the so called "sensitivity" of the LIGO interferometer, and have a couple of questions: 1) I think that only an handful of events detected, are too few for such a sensitive instrument. I think in the space around us (i.e. our own galaxy), should be way more smaller blac...

Re: APOD: Galaxy Cluster Abell 370 and Beyond (2017 May 06)

Maybe it's exactly what I meant. I was paying attention to the very same galaxy, for it's peculiar characteristics, like the "blue tail" and "more than one" bright dots in it. For the very same reason my attention was captured also by the almost single-line arcs nearer to the cen...

Re: APOD: Galaxy Cluster Abell 370 and Beyond (2017 May 06)

But, wouldn't be possible to some super-computer, to (let's say) re-construct those "arcs" to the original galaxy shapes, in this way "recognize" which arc image is a "ghost" of the very same galaxy which is beside the group? I think it would be interesting, since one c...

I'm the same person Mario59, who posted before... sorry for the different avatar.... After viewing neufer's video ( :lol2: ) I've heard & recognised that all those "burps" are the very same "burp" record... (well almost most of them) If I could have a diagram of the burp soun...

Re: APOD: Rosetta's Rendezvous (2014 Aug 07)

After looking at Comet Hartley 2 it seemed to me that outgassing of carbon dioxide & water vapor mostly occurred at the spinning ends of this dipole comet (where the escape velocity is minimal). What material doesn't escape falls/condenses mostly around the central neck (where the escape veloci...

Re: APOD: Rosetta's Rendezvous (2014 Aug 07)

Simply fantastic and breathtaking image! Whoa! mother nature is surprising, even on a "rubble pile of stones" like this one! I never seen a surface like that one, even if I already seen surfaces of other asteroids. What is astonishing, is the appearance, the so many steeples, and the Incre...

Re: APOD: Cosmic Crab Nebula (2014 Jul 25)

some years ago I've seen a time-lapse sequence of images that mimics a pulsating nucleus in there... It was a HST image sequence. I've seen in that video, that the sorrounding was "moving" a bit according with the pulsation.... I wonder: is that "movement" the indication of the t...
