Re: APOD: Time Lapse Auroras Over Norway (2011 Mar 28)

The application is 3rd party software and is not the property of APOD . The images you have been seeing are from links within the APOD text. APOD has not been hacked. See: http://asterisk.apod.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=23005 , http://asterisk.apod.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=23245 , and the lin...

Re: APOD: Time Lapse Auroras Over Norway (2011 Mar 28)

SPECTACULAR movie!

Could a related .jpg be embedded in the description instead so that APOD desktop users don't see a cat? (http://www.swapmeetdave.com/Humor/Cats/Curious.jpg)

Re: Bugs? Problems? Report them here!

owlice wrote:electronfairy, the editors are aware of the bug, which has only recently come to light. The developer of the app is also aware of the bug.
Perfect! I will continue to enjoy the images (today's Serpent Storm on Saturn is another homerun) and patiently await an update. Thanks again for your help.

Re: APOD: Cassini Approaches Saturn (2011 Mar 15)

APOD itself is not designed to download a picture to your desktop. You're asking the editors to know what people use, what bugs are in those apps, and to fit APOD to those apps and bugs. That does not seem reasonable to me, so we disagree on this point. I realize now, Owlice, that you are technical...

Re: APOD: Cassini Approaches Saturn (2011 Mar 15)

. . . snip. . .That seems a dreadful waste of their time, efforts, and talents. For the record, I like that APOD includes amusing links and am very glad the editors include them. You apparently don't like these. To each his/her own. I don't object, per se, to the amusing links. But like billsav and...

Re: APOD: Cassini Approaches Saturn (2011 Mar 15)

Yep. . . I would like them to leave the unrelated images off the site. It would take less of their time and it would keep the topic, astronomy, as the focus. And I would argue astronomy is not short-sighted but quite the opposite.

Re: APOD: Cassini Approaches Saturn (2011 Mar 15)

The desktop app can't grab video, so grabs the first picture (.jpg) it can find. So. . . could the APOD folks put in the posting a .jpg of one of the frames, so po' folks like me don't have to look at the pac man "thin rings" as my desktop? I found it so objectionable I changed the deskto...

Re: APOD: Cassini Approaches Saturn (2011 Mar 15)

The movie (and music) are fantastic. I wish I knew why the desktop app seems to select the joke pictures (thin rings= pac man). Seems to happen more often with movies. Twice recently I've had images of audiences with 3-D glasses on. APOD, and their desktop, are very cool. I just wish I could always ...

Same same. Different computer. Nice truck, but hopefully someone will explain why we missed the Messenger photo today.
