Re: Submissions: 2015 July
In the constellation of Cygnus one can find NGC 6914. In this region emission nebulae, as well as absorption and reflection nebulae can be found. In the beginning of June I photographed this region, just like Tim Schuurman (a fellow astrophotographer). We shared our data and then I worked on this, b...

This weekend we went with our students to the CERN facilities in Geneva, Switzerland. There I saw this sculpture which is an overview of modern science and its history. This sculpture shows clearly where we stand now and how this knowledge came to be... It is described by CERN as: "Baptised “Wa...

After an image made 2 days ago of C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy from Australia I decided to gather some more data from the background to improve the 'depth' of the image. Therefore I took 300s exposures to get more details and fainter stars in the image. Furthermore I completely reprocessed the comet data to ge...

This image shows the Double Cluster in the constellation of Perseus. The Double Cluster (also known as Caldwell 14) is the common name for the naked-eye open clusters NGC 869 and NGC 884 (often designated h Persei and χ Persei, respectively), which are close together in the constellation Perseus. NG...

Very recently Robert Gendler released a new image of M57 (http://www.robgendlerastropics.com/M57-HST-LBT.html) which is very nice. I wanted to make a notification that I had an image quite similar to this one already processed and published in May 2013 on my site and on Flickr. It is a combination o...

Re: Submissions: 2014 June
In the last few nights I was able to catch more data of M16. I got much better Ha data (better seeing) and also some OIII and SII data, that I had to stretch quite far). In the end I'm happy with the result (it's at only 20 degrees elevation here...). TEC140 / QSI583ws 6x900s Ha, 4x900s OIII, 4x900s...

Re: Submissions: 2014 June
I have been working hard on the imagery taken remotely at the Siding Springs observatory in Australia. I had mosaic data and stacked the overlapping parts altogether to get more detail and did lots of postprocessing to try to get the most out of this one. I think the result is quite astonishing (at ...

Ultra deep imaging - z = 4.7 by amateurs
This is the deepest image I ever made, done in cooperation with Neil Fleming and Michael van Doorn. This image has a limiting magnitude of about 24/25 and in the image a z=4.7 (light travel time 12.0 billion lightyears) object can be seen. Never expected to get this deep imagery by amateur equipment...
