I'm sure someone mentioned it but to be staged that is one hell of a prop.

Re: APOD: Juno Approaching Jupiter (2016 Jul 01)

Great trailer. Some posters seem to forget how important PR is to NASA projects. While the Juno project is important (and exciting) to scientists, if the public can't feel it some politicians are going to start cutting funding. I wouldn't be too critical of NASA's Hollywood promos. I am reassured, w...

Re: APOD: 50 Miles on Pluto (2015 Jul 16)

Well, while exciting to the max, a little disappointing that at least Charon wasn't Rama. :( Perhaps when New Horizon visit the next Kuiper Belt object.... Out in these realms even Hollywood is beat out by sifi (as always). Clarke's award-winning novel Rendezvous with Rama (1972) was optioned for fi...

So this filament is 435000 miles long?
Not 93000000 million but it scared the bjesus out of me.

While it would have interfered with our study of Mars, its too bad it didn't hit Mars, it could have used the water.

Re: APOD: Lunar Time Lapse Panorama including... (2014 Feb 0

Great pic. Even so I know conspiracy theorists (not a real science  ) are going to declare its fake because of the disconnected tracks. I told one of them China used the same stage set as the Apollo missions. I regretted it because he took me as serious.

Re: APOD: The Great Meteor Procession of 1913 (2013 Feb 09)

It isn't clear by the Great Meteor Procession of 1913 posting if the halftone hand-tinted image by the artist Gustav Hahn was from photographic film. It seems to indicate that it was. If so, I wonder if the negative survives.

I agree with Speaker2Software who said, "I get the thought that we're looking at the results of galaxies in collision." I'm surprised more didn't comment on that. Even so appearances can be deceiveing especially for laymen like me.

Re: APOD: Curiosity Rover at Rocknest on Mars (2012 Dec 27)

Great shot and like previous posts I was going to lament the picture creating an ever running conspiracy theory. Some people don't read or more likely don't have any reading comprehension. I think they should have edited out the scoop tracks too because they look like foot prints to the dubious cons...

I have viewed this photo many times and, while I accept the explanation, I still cannot twist the image enough to get away from seeing "trees". I guess I'll go to the dementia site again and take the faultering brain test. :lol2:

Re: APOD: Curiosity Before Mars: Seven Minutes... (2012 Jul

OK kiddies, I remember when we couldn't even hit the moon. In my humble opinion, in this very new century, this feat will stand as one of the great technological achievements of space exploration. Its intricacies and payoff should thrill the public and that is so important for future robotic explora...
