Re: APOD: A Message From Earth (2012 Feb 19)

I agree with starstruck in that I do not believe anyone would understand the message. Can someone point out the individual elements of the message? At least the voyager messages were understandable but this is beyond me.

I agree this is most impressive. With the reds and greens it would have make a great Christmas day picture. Are the clumps of lighter arrears of actual star formation?

Re: APOD: The Diner at the Center of the Galaxy (2011 Dec 30

I have read that small or mini black holes can exhaust there their mass as escaping energy so my question is how massive does a black hole have to be to remain in existence and start growing?

Re: APOD: Comet Lovejoy: Sungrazing Survivor (2011 Dec 17)

This is one tough comet. I wonder how big the parent was and if it would have been visible in the twelfth century.

Thank you Neufer and Zlog for the explanation of the apparent speed at which the echo expanded.

Re: APOD: Caught in the Afterglow (2011 Nov 24)

Looks nice and may be what happened but I do not consider an artist’s illustration a picture therefore this should not be listed as the picture of the day. If this is what you want than call it the drawing of the day.

Does anyone else see a hooted face in today’s picture? Looks like someone looking off to the right.

Is this the way in or out? In any case it is interesting.

Re: APOD: The Butterfly Nebula from Hubble (2011 Nov 13)

This is a very nice picture. I wonder how fast this will change from our point of view until it no longer represents the shape of a butterfly.

Re: APOD: Asteroid 2005 YU55 Passes the Earth (2011 Nov 09)

I think it is ridiculous that such a poor quality picture was posted. Maybe you should have let an amateur with a backyard telescope post a picture it would most likely be something worth looking at.
