Hi all, In response to the discussion regarding the forward scattering of moonlight from the kiawe leaves... I was standing about 3/4 a mile away or so when taking this shot - and I had no flash on my camera. So, scratch that idea. Also, the leaves on those trees aren’t being illuminated by Honolulu...

Hello,

Alex here, the one who shot the image of the Moon and Venus over Koko crater. The forward scattering is through the leaves of a kiawe tree. There are no plumeria trees on the rim of the crater, but there are quite a few plumerias inside the crater.

flaring sun rising over crater

Shot of the flaring sun rising over Koko crater, on the east side of Honolulu. This image was taken at 8:49 Hawaii time (18:49 UT). AR1944 looms large towards the center of the disk.
