Re: Submissions: 2020 February
Hard to believe the four prominent galaxies in this group are 100 million light-years distant! Selective star shrink helped preserve the far more distant ones. Skies were very dark, clear and steady for the 6 hours of luminance. Skies were also dark for RGB, but wind gusts were up to 10 mph. I delet...

Re: Submissions: 2020 February
Although NGC2841 has been imaged a few times, only a handful seem to really capture its beauty, especially in Kent Wood's capture of the very faint extended arms. https://www.astrobin.com/390497/C/ http://www.caelumobservatory.com/gallery/n2841.shtml https://slate.com/…/ngc-2841-robert-gendler-photo...

Re: Submissions: 2020 February
When a supernova was discovered in NGC 1637 in 1999, it immediately became the focus of very large telescopes... https://www.eso.org/public/usa/images/eso1315a/ Today NGC 1637 is rarely imaged. Here's one from the Liverpool Telescope on Astrobin... https://www.astrobin.com/108959/ And from Adam Bloc...

Re: Submissions: 2020 January
Continuing my quest for difficult and rarely imaged distant objects, I came across this image of NGC 5216/5218 by Adam Block... https://www.adamblockphotos.com/ngc-5216.html This is LRBG = 10:4:4:4 hours in his 32-inch Schulman RCOS. Unfortunately the wind and sky this month didn't permit 20+ hours ...

As always, thanks so much for your feedback Ann! I'm not that smart, so most of that description is from Sakib Rasool as used on Mark Hanson's version of this object...

Re: Submissions: 2020 January
NGC2655 (ARP 225) First opportunity to image since November. The Julian winter skies prevented imaging in December. So more holiday time with the family. (-: I wanted to start the new decade with something very difficult, very far and rarely imaged. NGC2655 at 80 Million Light Years - FAR beyond the...

NGC 6384. KG Observatory. Julian, CA. This galaxy lies in the constellation of Ophiuchus (The Serpent Bearer), not far from the centre of the Milky Way on the sky. The positioning of NGC 6384 means that we have to peer at it past many dazzling foreground Milky Way stars that are scattered across thi...

Re: Submissions: 2019 November
M74. KG Observatory, Julian, CA. The November weather hasn't been very cooperative this dark cycle. We're seeing clouds and 20 mph+ wind nearly every day. Last night was surprisingly clear, dark and steady. Here's M74 from what I can gather from 8 PM to 1 AM. A bit noisier than my normal 15 hours, b...

Little Sombrero (NGC7814). KG Observatory. Julian, CA. This is kind of an unplanned experiment to see what's possible to acquire during the Santa Ana wind season in CA. During this night, the wind was between 10 and 15 mph. With the high dust content in the air, seeing was between 3" and 4"...

Re: Submissions: 2019 November
Crab Nebula. KG Observatory. Julian, CA. https://www.astrobin.com/1gsgfg/ My goal with this project was to expose as much as the natural color (RGB) as possible with the details present in the Ha. To that end, I used Ha as a luminance layer over the RGB. A Masked Stretch in PI helped minimize any ha...

Something moving near Crab Nebula? This is from 10/29/19 from 1:23 AM to 5:35 Am PST from Julian, CA. I first saw it in the RGB combine. The two L frames are my first B and last G from last night.
It's known asteroid "Indiana".

Re: Submissions: 2019 October
The Little Dumbbell. KG Observatory, Julian, CA. When I first tried this object, I found it difficult to expose any fine detail. RGB seemed a bit "blurry" and L had no additional detail. It turned out Ha exposed some structure and OIII to a lesser extent. What you see here is RGB with a Ha...

NGC 7129. KG Observatory. Julian, CA. https://www.astrobin.com/nmvsgc/?nc=user That's a brilliant photo! Thank you! There are two little elongated objects in the upper right corner. Could they be distant background galaxies (naah, not sufficiently red for that, I suppose), or could they be little b...

Ghost Nebula (SH2-136). KG Observatory, Julian CA. Recently a few folks on Astrobin suggested I try the elusive Ghost Nebula (SH2-136). This is a challenging LRGB object with virtually no signal in Ha or OIII. Long integration in dark skies is very helpful. My goal was to collect my normal 6 hours o...

The Hidden Galaxy (Uncovered). KG Observatory, Julian, CA. This is a re-process of my prior IC 342 image from last November. Here I use PI CC rather than PCC to help "uncover" the red hue introduced by the Milky Way dust between us and this distant galaxy. Same technique used for Fireworks...
