Maybe a point from where one has a view of "full earth shape* can be considered as a boundary ("beginning of space around Earth") ? Just a thought..I'm curious what others think..

I'm a bit confused (and yes, I'm going to read up relevant things online). I thought nebulae were mostly remnants after supernova explosion.. And here, the supernova hasn't happened yet (expected in next few thousand years) and the nebula is formed out of just "winds" blown from star's atm...

Re: APOD: Framed by Trees: A Window to the Galaxy (2021 Jul 19)

Beautiful view. Just wondering about all these blue stars seen adjacent to the plane of galaxy. Normally, with naked eyes or even the telescopic photos I've seen of our milky way plane, we see bluish hue background adjacent to the plane but the thousands of stars we see there are normally seen white...

Red colored is because of Hydrogen, i also see greenish tinged on left side (Oxygen ?).. Yellowish/brown in middle seems to be dust and visible yellow light around disc.. What about light blue? Spiral arms ? If no, what is it ? If yes, why are they seen so hazy cloudlike w/o any recognizable shape (...

Re: APOD: HD 163296: Jet from a Star in Formation (2021 Jun 22)

3 questions top of my head - 1) Why multiple disks ? Can there be 1, 2, many ? How many and depends on what ? 2) Why opposite side of jet is disjoint (floating) as if it has no connection with source (jet coming towards us seems more uniform comparitively) 3) Any idea if plane of disks is determinis...

I wonder if those BIG bluish/white stars (some at inner circular boundary and towards outer circular boundary of photo) are part of this GC ? Are they seen much bigger and brighter because they are closer OR they are really big supergiants ?

I wonder why every encyclopedia is shy to tell the angle of this galaxy disk to our line of view. I found these 2 pages which say it's approx. 87-88 deg tilted - 1) http://www.nightskyinfo.com/archive/ngc4565/ "NGC 4565 is inclined to an angle of 87°, 3° from edge-on." 2) https://academic...

Sorry to say, today's APOD content might be "super cool and/or extraordinarily amazing" for some but for me (a lay person), honestly, I am not enjoying it much. Seems some *random imagination of super complex things we really don't know much about*.. And the music (background score) makes ...

I'm assuming whatever is shown inside Einestien ring/circle are the copy images of real stuff outside because of gravitational lensing. If yes, after the merger is complete, I was thinking all that stuff will be cleared (copy images removed).. No ?

To add to (or perhaps misunderstand!) Ann's posts, I like the pic of M53 from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messier_53 better, since it seems to more clearly show individual "blue stragglers": M53.JPG But are they actually "blue stragglers"? And frankly, I seem to see the same n...

I wonder - 1) All objects without spikes are galaxies then ? 2) What's the blue spike/colored star towards top right corner ? The bright blue star is HD 205514. It is a star of spectral class A0, not unlike Vega. The star is located some ~ 1.000 light-years away, and at that distance, it is a faint...
