Thank you! 21 hours to be precise. https://www.astrobin.com/hzakye/ I see! But how many hours did the processing take? It can't be 21 hours for the entire effort, right? Data acquisition was 21 hours. Processing was done in APP and Pixinsight, not much over an hour. Wow. I thought it takes longer t...

Cassiopeia is in the picture. Look at the annotated version mentioned in the explanation. The image is a another masterpiece by Tunç Tezel. APOD should be able to spell his name correctly. Holger So is he from Turkey? That's the Turkey flag, right? Where is this Turkish flag you’re referring to? 20...

Re: APOD: Diamonds in the Sky (2024 Apr 20)
It seems the link that is supposed to direct to yesterday's APOD instead redirects to the APOD for April 18. That's usually remedied by refreshing (reloading) your browser page. Doing that almost always fixes any stale link issues that I sometimes see. Not working. I don't think it's on my end. zxc...

Does the nebula from which the sun emerged still exist? Run 3 Even if the nebula has been dispersed, there would still exist highly detectable traces of the emission cloud would there not? No, it no longer exists at all. It's material ended up in the Sun and in the other bodies that make up the Sol...

Are you sure it isn't the ISS ? The APOD image is from 1999, and the ISS was launched in 1998. So it could have been. Today's APOD, like those on most Sundays, is a repeat, having been used on at least five occasions. It first appeared on 30 Aug 1999, just a few days after the image was snapped, wi...

I tried recreating the moment in Space Engine, which is a space simulator (It has been accurate when I used it before to get the position of Jupiter and other planets in the sky) zxc.jpg I set the date and time to August 11,1999, 10:13 UTC, and the Moon's shadow fell on the UK. New APOD is typically released at midnight EST, but today for some reason it has been delayed. Maybe that's why no one has commented yet.zendae1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 3:30 pm Well, since no one has posted a reply today, I'll just offer that any APOD explanation that has Carl Sagan's name in it, I love.

The result would be dynamically unstable, and can you imagine the tides? I doubt a 3-body system of Mars, Earth, and the Moon would allow for anything more complex than algae and bacteria to survive. I knew you'd probably say that. 😊 Many planets have more than one moon. Are those systems all ultim...

Re: APOD: A Total Solar Eclipse Close-Up in... (2024 Mar 03)
Ok, but I still find it odd the Rauf would have know - seemingly off hand - about the particular eclipse. But perhaps he also did some sort of search. And I only used Prescott, AZ (where I might want to eventually retire to) because it came to mind. Yes, it wasn't a total eclipse, but my main point...

Cool. What kind of telescope do you have access to, if any? ( And PS, that should be "better than mine " - 😠 ) Yeah, my bad. Thanks for the correction! We got a Celestron CPC 1100, and a Sky-Watcher Dobsonian 8". Nice scopes both! Yeah, I love the Celestron. But unfortunately due to ...
