Wonderful image, and Happy New Year!

Currently, the date above the image reads "2024 January 3".

Re: APOD: Three Galaxies and a Comet (2023 Dec 21)

Nice APOD today! I usually like to click on the image to see if I can zoom in (with a subsequent click on the image). Currently, however, the link to the image appears to be broken (although I can download the image from the page).

Even with the cursor-activated bridge, it looks to me that B is lighter than A. It is only when I snip a small area of each and compare that they look the same.

Re: APOD: Moon Io from Spacecraft Juno (2023 Oct 23)

Are there two plumes near the top or am I seeing something else? (I clicked the image two times to zoom it for a closer look.) I can only see one thing that might be a plume. Ann Yes, I think that you are correct. I mistook what is likely a surface feature that is in the Martian dusk for a "do...

Re: APOD: Apollo 17: The Crescent Earth (2023 May 13)

But this digitally restored image presents a view so far only achieved by 24 humans, Apollo astronauts who traveled to the Moon and back again between 1968 and 1972. In case it comes up - because it did the last time this image was run - there were 9 Apollo missions that rounded the Moon: 8, 10, 11...

Note: The date at the top of today's APOD is currently erroneous and the "Discuss" link does not link properly to this location.

Hi,

At its closest approach to Earth, the comet was at a distance of 15 light-minutes (not 15 light-seconds), right?

Nice, and the 4 eclipses (2 partial solar, 2 total lunar) can be predicted by looking at the subsolar N-S angle (must be close to 0 degrees) at new and full moon, right?

Nice detail when zoomed in. I wonder what the streak of light is that is to the left of what I think is Canopus, the brightest unlabeled star.

Very nice APOD today!

However, the current 'Discuss' link points to the non-existent page for the 14th (the 'this link' link on that page points to the proper place).

Re: APOD: Triple Transit and Mutual Events (2021 Aug 21)

In the '70's, I loved watching transits of the Jovian moons' shadows, and transits of the moons themselves on Jupiter's disk but for some reason I was never able to see a moon eclipse another, much less on Jupiter's disk, as seen from Earth. But I was able to see one moon occult another on more than...

Nice image though. Saved as a background for my vertically oriented middle screen.

It is interesting that this galaxy has an offset core, and somewhat of a void at its center, presumably due to the interaction with its neighbor.

Thanks,
