Re: Hobbies
How do you take photos? Is it the placement of camera traps or waiting many hours with the camera in certain places? Photography, as for me, takes a very long time. You also need to wait to catch the desired frame. And travel also takes a lot of time and money. No camera traps, and I certainly don'...

Re: Hobbies
I guess since I'm retired, everything I do is a hobby. :) I like to travel, and often when I travel, I look for wildlife, and birds in particular. And music, especially classical. I also like to read, bike, and I have a lot of craft handiwork projects I might finish someday... DSCN1368v2_Black-shoul...

Re: APOD: Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1300 (2020 Jun 11)
So.... out of interest, what happened to June 10th? Did the Vogons bulldoze it to make way for a time-tunnel from June 9 straight to June 11? Well, I think I spotted a June 10 APOD in the morning, around 7 a.m. here in Sweden, which would mean it was in the very wee hours, U.S. time. The APOD was a...

Many scientists and others involved in STEM are taking time on June 10 to focus on activities and actionable plans that work towards ending racism. I post here resources in support of #ShutDownSTEM. That picture doesn't show the Summer solstice! Even in northern Scotland the Sun goes lot higher in summer, and this is from the Borders, barely out of England! Click on the last link to the timelapse to see the whole series. The Sun goes out of the top of the frame! John Why should it, when it's a...

Markus, you might like some of the papers at the link I supplied, too! :D I did. The first paper is about multi versions in software development, the next two are from computer science. Yes, I know. I didn't say ALL of the papers... I said " some of the papers at the link I supplied." Fro...

Re: Existence of multiverses?
Hey guys, I'm a high school astronomy student in Hawai'i and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the existence of multiverses? If so which of the existing theories on multiverses seems the most probable based on physics/science? Any answers would help out a lot thanks so much! Astrogirl, th...

Sorry for digging this thread, but I have a similar question with herpdederp, and it's definitely not airglow, owlice. Sorry, but I was responding to zijon's question (not herpdederp's) about the "somewhat greenish thin line just above Earth surface?", which is indeed airglow. I didn't an...

I wanted cake for all, and boy howdy, I got it! The meeting ended tonight with a reception; I did not win any door prizes, darn it, though my hopes peaked when, for the grand prize CCD camera, Alex someone's name was called. The moment before the "x" in "Alex"... ! So close, so c...
