Lovely poster. I don't have Twitter, but I thought I would check this out, since I supposedly don't need an account. Re: XXXth General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU)

Oh!!! One of the speakers presented remotely as she couldn't travel to Vienna, because, as she put it, “like some galaxies, I have a large bulge to total mass ratio”! Later that day, it was reported that the bulge was now a newborn. :-) See here: https://twitter.com/MatthewColless/status/10321970350...

Re: XXXth General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU)

Okay, so the above is a general announcement about this event, which has just over 3,000 people from 88 (!) countries in attendance and, like the Olympics, has a formal passing of the baton, with national flags involvement, in a closing ceremony. Or so I've been told; this is the first time I've att...

Re: Owl Time

I love owls (which I suspect is no surprise to folks here :ssmile:). I've seen numerous owls both in rehab facilities and in the wild. Years ago, my best friend and I both had meetings in San Francisco the same week. We flew west early so we could spend the weekend before our meetings birding in the...

Do you salute The Donald's picture every time you go in to work?

Re: 10 reasons

Alexander Waugh's primary claim has the advantage that it can be scientifically tested: Waugh claims that Edward de Vere's remains lie buried under Shakespeare's 1740 statue in Poet's Corner. Alexander Waugh's secondary claim supports what Baconians have been saying for 160 years : That the Stratfo...

<<Alexander Waugh (born 1963) is an English eccentric ... Waugh is an advocate of the Oxfordian theory, the belief that Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford wrote the works of William Shakespeare. He claims to have found surreptitious allusions embedded in 16th- and 17th-century works revealing that...

Re: Weather!

It's 12°F (-12°C) here at 1 AM. Nome Alaska is warmer (27°F/-3°C at 21:00). Our high for the day was 18°F, so yeah, still colder than Nome. Colder than Tromso (-6°C) and Bergen is having a heat wave... it's 0°C there right now. At least I'm not on Boston. My kitchen pipes tend to freeze when the tem...
