Apod.exe simulates one keystroke in order to exit the screen saver mode before changing the wallpaper. I believe you leave your system running at night. When apod.exe changes the wallpaper, it first generates a single keystroke in order to make sure the screen saver is off. Of course, this is harmle...

Custom labeling with wolf

Labeling with wolf work by adding the switch "f" followed with a name of a text file.

For instance:
wolf -s50 -fFilename.txt image.fits image.jpg

The text file is of the form:
RA DEC label (the label is optional)

for instance, Filename.txt can be:

10 25 object1
12 40
15 30 object3

Re: APOD Unknown over Hawaii- Feb 8

BOB- I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS JUST THE RE-ENTRY of an un-cataloged piece of spacecraft or upper stage that could have been in orbit for many years. It could have been something as small as a large explosive nut or bolt used to tie satellites to an upper stage. Best Regards, It was good to see you in ...

Changing the hardware is a long term solution. On the short term we will probably have to pay on-line data. I was thinking about writing a short program that compresses the older files the archives. In a second thought, the JPGs are already compressed, so I need to check whether the additional disk ...

Thank you Dr. Brosch, I'm clearly not sure myself about what I am trying to do here. You are surely right about finding the peaks. What I understand now (as a matter of fact, I noticed that several weeks ago) is that most of the nights are just not reliable for photometry using CONCAM. What I need t...

I checked Heavens-Above and it seems that this objects is not HST or ISS. Such a long Iridium flare was not expected at that night. A convincing twilight-zone-like story would be the following: The object is clearly seen at MK/HL moving from west to east. MW and KP turned off exactly when the object...

Alp Umi and Alp Cas based on the same night (the first "photometric" night). http://nightskylive.net/temp/alpumi_alpcas_kp.xls The data of october 3rd until october 10th is not good due to a high standard error and many missing days with not even one good observation (comparing to the base...

I may be mistaken, but this appears to be random fluctuations?
The pimp seen it many times before, don't feel bad for your mistake!
We show a very low standard error, which is much lower the estimated fluctuations. Why do you think this is random? Please explain.

In order to show that Pollaris is a variable star, we first tried to show that it varies more than Alp Cas. The process was to take all photometric nights (where Alp Cas is constant) and to show that Pollaris varies more than Alp Cas in these nights. The excel files here shows that the standard devi...

Photometric nights in the northern Hemisphere

A list of photometric nights for all Northern CONCAMs is listed here. The list is based on the average ratio of the counts (C16) of Polaris in the same sidereal times. Each list gives the two night that are compared (photometry files of Polaris), the average ratio between the observation in first ni...
