Perhaps a situation similar to atmospheric pressure gradients could exist on intergalactic levels. Where you have areas of left oriented spin meeting areas of right oriented spin you get strings of galaxies, similar to atmospheric streams, moving in the same direction

Geck,
Out of curiosity and considering polo0258's comment
How many of the Fabulous APOD's have been Single Exposure Images and how many have been Multiple Mosaic or Stacked?
My guess would be that there are relatively few APOD's that are Single Images

Had some glorious Mamatus Clouds over Sonoma County yesterday along with Cirrus, Nimbus, areas of Virga, and white sheets of Hail falling against dark anvil cloud backgrounds. The only thing missing was lightning.

Unfortunately, neither of which are currently very efficient and both extremely expensive without government subsidies. Ivanpah Molten Salt reactors (BrightSource Energy) have yet to produce their touted 1,000,000 MWh per year and still need to use NG turbines to maintain the core temperature at nig...

Re: APOD: Orion's Belt and Sword over Teide's Peak (2016 Mar 28)
What may throw the appearance of Orion off to an observer of this image is the fact that Orion is setting in the west in this image rather than rising in the east. If Orion were rising then the Horsehead and Orion nebulae would be incorrectly oriented given which direction would be north. If Orion w...

You are correct, these are Radar Images and not dependent on visible light so no visible light shadowing effect would be possible.
Although radar shadowing can occur, this is usually manifested as missing data rather than Flat data

But Methane doesn't change from a Solid to a Liquid until it reaches 90.7K, much warmer than it ever gets on Pluto. Will Solid Methane have a chemical reaction with either a Solid or a Slushy Liquid Fluorine? Also, I was under the impression that Methane Combustion required O2 and either a Heat Sour...

Summer temperatures on Pluto reach 55K.
Oxygen changes phase from solid to liquid at 54.8K
Fluorine changes phase from solid to liquid at 53.55K
It is possible that this area could be something exotic like a Fluorine or Oxygen ocean and is resurfaced as Pluto warms.

Pluto's Haze
This image of haze layers above Pluto's limb was taken by the Ralph/Multispectral Visible Imaging Camera (MVIC) on NASA's New Horizons spacecraft. Was it just luck that DSCOVR was just in the right place to capture a 'full earth' during the eclipse? No. It's always very near the Earth-Sun L 1 point- that is, on a line between the Sun and Earth. All it ever sees is a full Earth. And had the eclipse followed a slightly different path, it might ...
