Re: APOD: Panorama of the Whale Galaxy (2010 May 17)

Hey guys, i don't think you are tackleing travel off the planet quite right. Galactic and inter-Galactic travel at Warp speeds are ok, BUT, when you get to Universe and beyond Universe travel, you need something much faster like Thought Speed. And after you have accomplished that and are ready to tr...

Re: Cydonia and Shroud of Turin Faces

Finally!!!! I get to see a decent image of the "Mars Face". After perusing both the informative and the non-informative information in all these posts, i have arrived at a conclusion, or two, or a few. First -- the image is shown upside-down. Second -- There is a certain symmetry to the im...

Re: TAM: Research Finds Ancient City of ‘Modern’ Galaxies

I wonder if they are ever going to be able to find the rainbow colored Galaxies. Microsoft has a series of 12 pictures of space from the Spitzer Space telescope that rotates every half hour, that you can download for background. My favorite looks like a big eye with a red center and blue or bluish-g...

Re: UT: Making Sense Of The Neutron Zoo

Just what do neutron stars quietly fade away into? Billion pound dust bunnies? Traffic hazzards for UFO's ? Mediocre dispersion of leftover gas? Or perhaps it manages to shrink enough to become too heavy to stay in this realm and it falls through to another realm alongside of this realm? Or perhaps ...

Re: APOD: Crescent Venus and Moon (2010 May 16)

Besides the fact that there are a few kids that peruse this site that would ask if the moon is ever left faceing, you have to realize that there are some of us who tend to get "brain" freeze around 2:00am. This, plus haveing to deal with toooo much Kipferl, could throw anyone a bit off. It...

Re: APOD: Crescent Venus and Moon (2010 May 16)

What an amazing illustration of -- Big and Little. However, I'm wondering if the picture has been reversed? I've seen many crescents of the moon and do not remember any crescents being on the left side. Maybe all the ones i have seen has been when the moon is waxing and not waneing. Tonight i caught...

Re: In which nebula was our sun formed?

In reading through all these posts i am a little teeny bit surprised that no one has entertained the idea that this solar system just may have been put together puposefully sometime "BEFORE" THIS Earth was added. I think it was Carl Seagan(did i spell it right?)on PBS that was explaining h...

Re: Is the Asterisk board intimidating?

Of course its intimidating!! Anything that you are not used to doing is intimidating! Some things are more than others, some things are less than others, that is just the way it is. Most people don't really give it a thought as they are looking for whats interesting to them and so they do not realiz...

Re: APOD: The Elusive Jellyfish Nebula (2010 May 15)

5 is not a quick simple answer! It is an odd number. Odd numbers are not simple. Even numbers are simple.
However, two odds make a simple right answer if they are equal to 2x50% of the even number equivalent. Simple - is'nt it??

Re: APOD: The Elusive Jellyfish Nebula (2010 May 15)

Thanks Chris. I now seem to be caught somewhere between Astronut and my first user name BEYOND. I now have options at the bottom of the page, but do not have the edit and report buttons that are at the top of the page. I'm going to have to go through this stuff again and maybe it will come out right...

Re: Cause of Triple Sunrise (APOD 2009 August 4)

the triple image of the sun is almost the exact same thing that you get with what is called 'heat mirror' windows. these windows have a thin sheet of metal coated plastic between the two panes of glass to reflect heat. if you hold a light bulb in front of the window, you will see three light bulbs. ...
