I don't understand the implication of the several green/red/yellow "spots" in the enlarged blue window. Has the comet already fragmented into several pieces?

It would be interesting to see if Curiosity could also get a picture of the Milky Way .....

A wonderous photograph!! I usually see the Horse Head as a closeup ~~ this picture gives a fantastic sense of proportion to the whole area.

It looks like if the land mass of the North American continent weren't there to deflect hurricanes that the Asian coastline would get a lot more bad storms.

Following the links, I found a mention that James Van Allen discovered that there was also radiation belts around Saturn. Do any of the other planets in the Solar System have radiation belts? Does the Sun have anything like them?

For a beginner in this complex arena, I found this APOD with its description and the many links an exciting introduction to ideas and things that I hadn't known about before. Thanks !!!

Since I'm on a slow dialup internet connection, I don't spend much time surfing ~~ it's too frustrating. BUT, I do follow APOD!! I see the daily picture first but read both the text AND the Asterisk comments with great interest to make sense of the pictures. Then I go back-n-forth from the text and ...

I'm always blown away by the fragile and difficult sense of the size of the Universe ~~ it's makes my little acre (which I dearly love wandering about on) absolutely pale in comparison.
