I was just going to say this. It appears the date is missing a digit.

It's very cool that one individual was able to travel to each of those places to capture these images! 8-)

Re: APOD: Curiosity Rover Takes Selfie on Mars (2017 Nov 20)

As far as the "small rock... stuck into one of Curiosity's aging wheels", is it the right front wheel? ... And the wheel directly behind that front one looks like it has a hole in it as well. Or is one of those spots the rock? On right-middle wheel (especially in the enlarged view), I see...

Re: APOD: Curiosity Rover Takes Selfie on Mars (2017 Nov 20)

Very interesting image. As far as the "small rock... stuck into one of Curiosity's aging wheels", is it the right front wheel? The enlarged image shows what looks like several holes that've been punched in the wheel: one towards the upper portion where the tread sorta zig-zags, and the oth...

Re: Daylight saving time?

The APOD FaceBook page, at least, has such an announcement... The APOD for 2017 Oct 16 will be delayed pending an announcement from the NSF and the LIGO and Virgo collaborations at 10 am EDT. Rob Thanks Rob. Not on Facebook, but I (finally) did notice the announcement the bottom of yesterday's imag...

Instead of yesterday's image, why didn't they have a some kind of announcement saying that? :-?
I thought the site was hacked or something.

This is a very ineresting image.
And I also have a question about the colors: or more specifically, what is the difference between 'hydrogen alpha emission' that are colored red, and 'hydrogen series emission', colored blue and purple?

Morning all! My question is regarding the phrase 'active galaxy'. I know that M31 (Andromeda) is the closest galaxy to us, but why is this galaxy considered the closest 'active galaxy'? What makes a galaxy 'active'? (And why is M31 not - or no longer - classified as active?) And this is a beautiful ...
