Re: A Graceful Arc (2009 Dec 25)

To clear up the confusion about the POV of this photo and these two mountains. This is a real place and I have been there. It is on highway 299 north/northeast of Redding (70 miles) about 7 to 10 miles out of McArthur heading away from Redding. Put those names in Google Maps or Earth. The photo is l...

No no!

You all see it wrong. You also drive on the wrong side of the road as well. Do you shake with the left hand or right?

Having never been down-under so to speak I would have been lost finding stars and constellations :( Thanks for giving me the new perspective.

Re: The Flame Nebula in Infrared (2010 Jan 12)

. . . the famous Horsehead Nebula, visible above on the far right.

The Horsehead sure looks more wispy in inferred. I am going to see if I can overlay this image with one taken in visible light.

There used to be a lot of talk about using fusion for generating electricity. Containment seemed to be an overwhelming problem then. I haven't seen much about it for quite a while. JET seems to be still working on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_power Orin Might I point you to this https://...

Re: Ares 1-X Launch (2009 Nov 2)

I was at the cape last week and saw the launch. I was at Coco Beach about 20 miles south of the launch pad. It took close to 30 seconds for the sound to reach me. It was not loud like distant thunder. The rocket arched over quickly after launch. The sonic cloud in the photo was there less than a sec...

This is the most boring picture I have seen on the site  . At first I thought that the picture was taking way to long to load. And oh! It does not look beige to me it looks white. But that maybe the browsers limited color palette.

Re: Martian Dust Devil Trails (21 Oct 2009)

I am new to posting on this thread but have been looking at APOD for over three years. Not sure if you all know this trick. If you left click on the image a refresh of just the image will be loaded in without any text. If a plus sign if visible when your mouse is over the image you can left click th...

Re: Pleiades and Stardust (2009 Oct 14)

I don't much like the post processing done on this image today. Too much color bleeding, for lack of a better way to describe it. I think it'd be fun to have the original and try myself at ramping up the colors. I don't know if I could do any better but it'd be nice to try. Got me thinking??? What ...

Re: Famous Annular Eclipses I (APOD 2009 January 25 )

Hello, This is my first post, however I have been viewing APOD for several years. I use a program called Celestia http://www.shatters.net/celestia/ (some of you may know it). I used it to today to view the eclipse as it traveled across the Indian Ocean. Celestia also has earth satellites in it and I...
