In the information brought up through the "featured unusual image" link https://www.flickr.com/photos/fhhemmerich/32923225095/in/pool-3084377@N22/ it states the image was acquired on 2017-02-14. However, on the image brought up through the http://www.damianpeach.com/deepsky/2p_encke_2017_0...

Wow that's a fascinating image. It's looks too nice to be called the Rotten Egg Nebula :).

PS. I wonder if the Universe has a smell?

Re: APOD: Comet 45P Passes Near the Earth (2017 Feb 12)

The "nucleus" link in the explanation http://www.cometcampaign.org/files/images/comets_spacecraft.jpg brings up a montage of images of comets. That for 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko taken in 2014 from Rosetta is very spooky having a face-like feature on its right. Pareidolia working well for a...

Re: APOD: The Porpoise Galaxy from Hubble (2017 Feb 06)

The explanation states the image was taken "last year" but the image does look very much like a reprocessing of the image used as the APOD of June 24 2013 https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130624.html (the image seemed very familiar, so I searched the APOD archive). Links in the explanation als...

Re: APOD: Four Planets Orbiting Star HR 8799 (2017 Feb 01)

I am uncertain as to where the 4 planets are in the video. In information from one of the links in the explanation it states "The forth HR 8799 planet was found after further observations in 2009–2010. That planet orbits inside the first three planets”. I wonder therefore if the very faint obje...

Re: APOD: GOES-16: Moon over Planet Earth (2017 Jan 26)

Wow, that is a fascinating image.

It took me a while though to find that GOES stands for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites. I also found that GOES-16 was originally called GOES-R but once a GOES satellite is in geostationary orbit it is then given a number.

It was confusing (well it was to me ) that the image was released in 2006 yet the 'Magellan' link in the explanation brought up information about the Giant Magellan Telescope whose commissioning is scheduled to begin in 2022!

Re: APOD: Shell Game in the LMC (2016 Dec 29)

Thank for your help Ann, which is appreciated :).

It was that the explanation made a lot about the use of narrowband filters but surprisingly did not state what colors the ionized sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms are in the image that got me wondering.
