Re: APOD: Galaxy Wars: M81 and M82 (2023 Jan 20)

Are density waves a proven theory ? To me, they sound as nebulous as dark matter. :? There is no such thing as a proven theory. They cannot ever be proven, only disproven. Density wave theory is very widely accepted because it is modellable and the output of the models closely match observation. Th...

Re: APOD: Stardust in Perseus (2023 Jan 12)

Embedded in the link “ embedded in the molecular cloud ” was the statement “…We also identify the filamentary structure of Perseus and discuss the relation between filaments and star formation, confirming that stars form preferentially in filaments…”. That I find a curiosity of unprecedented magnitu...

Re: APOD: NGC 2264: The Cone Nebula (2023 Jan 10)

My first thoughts revolved around how many stars and planets does an area of the size and density of the Cone Nebula represent? The nebular hypothesis speaks to the process why these clouds form components, and are essential in the universe for the star and planet accretion, but is how many may even...

Cosmic ray spallation is listed as sources of beryllium and boron but lithium is also referred to in some articles . Thinking big , could we someday make these in a lab? How could we test if lithium could be artificially produced to increase our supply :?: Or might that take three infinities(888)? ...

Building on lessons learned, Lucy will carry on exploring the making of our solar system and perhaps view our home planet from afar.

And we'll get a view from inside a real trojan horse.

What I'd like to see is a three dimensional portrait of the galaxy and relative directional motion of it's different areas. The reddish dust lanes, if that's correct, leading toward the center appear to be rising up from the plane and returning toward the center. Just saying it has an appearance of...
