Re: APOD: The North and South Jupiter (2016 Sep 14)

On the north pole photo if you tilt your head sideways and look just beside the squiggly white cloud over the purple colored zone you see a couple of bright white clouds that look like the letters US.
Isn't that weird? Jupiter seems to know that Juno has come from the US and is sending a greeting!

Re: APOD: Flying Over Pluto's Moon Charon (2016 Feb 22)

Ahh, gotta love astronomers! Wonder why a video from NASA, Johns Hopkins U, and others, gave it a name of 'planet-wide canyon' in the video when Charon isn't a planet? Even the larger Pluto isn't a planet.

Re: APOD: To Scale: The Solar System (2015 Dec 25)

They seem to point out that their scale model is accurate by comparing it to the sunrise. However I think they seems to be in error when Wylie said they needed 7 miles to fit in Neptune's orbit. If in the scale model an Astronomical Unit is 579 feet, (APOD said 590) and Neptune (I have to look it up...

Re: APOD: Herbig-Haro 24 (2015 Dec 18)

I noticed a discrepancy concerning events that contradict the absolute speed of light in a vacuum. In the link saying "opposing jets are blasting out" we find that on February 2014, Herbig-Haro 24 was some 1,500 light-years away. In today's APOD we learn that H-H 24 is 1,300 light-years aw...

Re: APOD: Phobos: Doomed Moon of Mars (2015 Nov 22)

Nigma, I suppose that the grooves happened before Phobos became tidally locked presenting one face to Mars. Considering Phobos' small size, that happened early on. When Phobos tumbled the groves opened showing its direction of spin. Once it became tidally locked the gravitational tide froze into the...

Re: APOD: Flying Past Pluto (2015 Oct 06)

That is strange. I assume the smaller bright dot is Charon. Now I have always read that Charon and Pluto are tidally locked and always present the same face to each other. In this video you can see a dark spot on Charon's right side. As Charon rotates counterclockwise on the screen with Pluto at the...

If this hill is on Mars where is the Martian Sky? The landscape seems to be taken in daylight, but the sky is as black as the airless moon. Pictures taken with the Curiosity or Opportunity rovers show a sky that is reddish brown, or gray if it is black and white picture.

Re: APOD: The Milky Way over the Temple of... (2015 Jun 08)

What a shame Poseidon's brother Jupiter wasn't in the sky! Then he would have to point to him as well. I suppose the photographer would have to come back when Jupiter is in a favourable position and then the photographer would radio the staff at the Temple of Poseidon to turn their search lights on ...

Re: APOD: Mysterious Green Patches on the Sky (2013 Sep 30)

I think it is some reflection from the flood lights. Notice that the chimney rock or hoodoo I believe they are called, are lit by some yellow and green lights particularly the hoodoo in the middle. Now the reflection in the sky occurs along with the tide rolling in. If that wasn't all, the rock on t...
