Re: APOD: Milky Way Over the Spanish Peaks (2016 May 24)

In the explanation it states "the large colorful region surrounding the star Rho Ophiuchus" but that is confusing me because according to the annotation that star has just a bit of blue around it which I would not describe as a "large colourful region". If it had not been mentio...

Re: APOD: Inside a Daya Bay Antineutrino Detector (2016 May 23)

PS. I am unable to open the image that I think should be brought up through the 'Featured here' link, though I do get some text. Could someone please let me know if the image that should be seen (and so its text) is the same, or not, as the APOD. Thanks. Well, the image is a TIFF, which isn't nativ...

Based on the position of Mars (and Saturn too), this picture was taken on the night of May 1, 2016 — indeed, it's early May as described. Looking at the larger version you get by clicking the picture on the main page, you can also see a small, slightly greenish patch in northern Ophiuchus represent...

Re: APOD: Milky Way in Moonlight (2016 Apr 23)

Nice shot. Tafreshi must have a big lens and a high megapixel camera to keep the moon overexposure from making a big nasty blob. I would submit the moon actually is quite a blob in this picture. It's impossible to tell from the picture itself that it was a crescent, let alone which way the crescent...

It's a very colourful interpretation of the presence of the three elements. A comparison to the black & white version that is also in David Lindemann's section in Astrobin is interesting. I was amused by the title to the latter "193'000 stars and a 108 pannels mosaic for the Orion Challenge...

It's a fascinating image :). It would have been better (well at least for me  ) if Mars, Saturn and Antares had been labelled on the annotated version as I am unsure which is which. In the image description in Petr's website it states "with bright „red“ planet Mars and a bit fainter Satur...
