Re: APOD: Jupiter Rotates (2021 Oct 26)
In today's APOD (10/26/21), is a movie of Jupiter rotating. Just off of center at the start of the video is a straight black line going from pole to pole. One of my 9yr old students noticed it. I at first thought it was produced by the lens, but then I noticed that the line rotated with the planet....

It’s 11th magnitude so a very small telescope, even a 2 inch lens, could in theory pick it up.SpaceCadet wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 4:55 am Are these clusters visible to us with a telescope from earth?

Fascinating. And South America doesn't get them - except for a solitary example ?? Are there any theories about why that may be ? I came to ask the same question... I’m curious if that slight bulge and dot at the 12:30 position on the star is another planet or if it’s just a processing artifact.
Also it’s really impressive how sharp the ALMA image is compared to the visual light one.

In the '70's, I loved watching transits of the Jovian moons' shadows, and transits of the moons themselves on Jupiter's disk but for some reason I was never able to see a moon eclipse another, much less on Jupiter's disk, as seen from Earth. But I was able to see one moon occult another on more tha...

Both of these craters seem to have grooves near the northern rim. Alphonsus has several other lesser grooves too. How do we explain the grooves? Those are lunar rilles. The cause of their formation is in dispute. They could be collapsed lava tubes. They could also be tectonic in nature where the cr...

Does anyone have access to a rather detailed pressure-temperature relationship on say a Sun like star (actually most any type I'm not picky!) ?
I have found a few coarse ones in textbooks but they don’t have near enough grain.
Before you suggest STARFORGE is WAY above my head!
Thanks!
