Our very own geckzilla has invented a new weapon against spam. :spam: I call it 'Spamacide'. Anyone have an idea on how put it into the web and cause all spam to be 'Spamacized'??

I must admit that I am rather proud of that little spam can. Fitting individual letters on a 3 by 4 grid of pixels is a little challenging.

What I find most interesting about the latest spam is that I'm actually seeing a lot of it. That's only been true for the last month or two -- prior to that I was almost never aware of it. So what changed? Was APOD discovered somehow by a wider audience? Has its success (perhaps its FaceBook presence) doomed it to constant attack?

Rob, last year around the turn of the year, we had a horrible problem with spam. This year, it seems to have happened again; it picked up a lot around the turn of the year. I doubt FB has anything to do with it. Other that that, it's had at least a low level of spam since I started as a mod/admin so yes, is under constant, though varied, attack.

I've never understood spam! How did it get named after a canned processed meat? It's a stumper. I have a lot of catching up to do.

I used to like eating spam; but it is one of those foods that my Dr. doesn't want me to have very often.

Once again we are experiencing an outbreak of spam. Please refrain from reporting posts unless they've been on the board for more than a couple of hours so we don't have to close reports in addition to fighting the spam; thank you!

ETA: Just to give you some idea what we're up against, over 100 spam posts have been removed from the board in the past 12 hours, and dozens of spammer accounts deactivated.

It's good to have a raptor around the homestead when there are too many rodents running loose.
