Flying over the Moon. Animation.

Post by Nebulium » Thu Jan 15, 2015 5:18 pm

Hello :)

This 7 min 15 sec long animation movie is built from two high resolution lunar mosaics shot during last summer first and last quarter.

The "vessel" follows a path at variable height and flies above well known locations on the Moon .

Animation made with 11 mosaics of comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko taken between 19 November and 3 December 2014. Each mosaic is composed of 4 NavCam pictures. These images were taken while Rosetta was in a 30-km orbit around the comet. Frames between NavCam mosaic are interpolated using a morphing software.

Asteroid 2004 BL86 Passing the Beehive - Time Laspe

On January 26 & 27th Asteroid 2004 BL86 passed within 745,000 miles of the Earth. That is about 3 times the distance to the Moon. Traveling at 35,000 miles per hour the Asteroid flew in front of the Beehive Cluster, Messier 44 (M44). During the event I took 607 images of the pass. Due to clouds only 314 were usable. I created a video using these to show 78.5 mins of the Asteroid pass.

We had a public event at the University Observatory, didn't even try to photograph something out of the ordinary.

Moreton Wave in Hydrogen-alpha

Post by Thomas Ashcraft » Sun Apr 19, 2015 12:04 am

Moreton Wave generated by a M3.3 Solar Flare on June 03 2012 1752-1801 UT

This fast-mode magnetohydrodynamic wave was captured in the hydrogen-alpha wavelength of 656.28 nanometers using a 50 mm double-stacked solar telescope at my observatory near Lamy, New Mexico. I have captured eight or so Moreton waves this solar cycle and this was the best specimen thus far.

Hoping for more.

See other various specimens at my website below.

I managed to capture reflections of the Milky Way in the bonnet of my car one night when I was photographing the night sky, so I decided next time round try and do a time-lapse - this was the end result.
