Conjunction over Côte d’Azur
http://stefanoderosa.com/
Copyright: Stefano De Rosa

I took these images from Villefranche (located in Côte d’Azur, the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France) before dawn on July 7, 2012 and showing the beautiful line-up of (from top to bottom) Pleiades, Jupiter, Venus (sitting in the V-shaped Hyades star cluster) and Aldebaran in the twilight colors over Cap-d’Ail.

In the foreground on the left is visible the Greek-style property “Villa Kerylos” whereas in the background on the left is the 550 mt high “Tête de Chien”promontory.

Best regards

Pleiades, Jupiter, Venus and Hyades on 10-07-2012
Image
Early dawn 10th July clouds came with a cold front but I had almost an hour of less cloudy Eastern sky while lightnings ( http://users.atw.hu/egbolt/stormy0710.jpg ) were visible behind.
A short series of photoes stitched into a startrails pic also made a nice view of the conjunction, the less bright stars are more visible here. Image
The conjuncting Venus & Jupiter with Pleiades and Hyades were amazing, even on urban sky it is a very spectacular scene! Anyone who is able to get up early must see this, in some days even with the waning crescent Moon joining the celestial company.
Image was taken in Veszprem, Hungary, the foreground is our 1000 years' old castle buildings with the double tower of the St. Michael Cathedral.

Conjunction over Lido di Dante
http://stefanoderosa.com/

Please find above an image of the conjunction between Venus, Jupiter and the crescent Moon taken before dawn on July 15, 2012. My daughter Rebecca and my niece Adele did not want to miss the sky show and joined me to admire the conjunction from the beach of Lido di Dante (Ravenna, Italy). And our early wake has been very well rewarded!

Best regards

Jupiter Occultation 15 July 2012

Taken from Italy, Marches, district Pesaro & Urbino. The Village in the photo is MOMBAROCCIO. When all hope was lost for the cloudy sky, that's me the moon peeping through the clouds with Jupiter barely distinguishable

Moon in company of Venus, Jupiter, and Aldebaran at dawn
Copyright: Gill Couto

View at dawn from Scottsdale, AZ of the Moon passing below Jupiter and to the left of Venus and Aldebaran. Further north is Capella, also very bright in morning skies. The sight of this conjunction stood out from many similar conjunctions, it appeared after the clearing of seasonal monsoon storms during the night. A most beautiful unexpected sight to start a new day.

Venus-Moon-Jupiter over downtown Montreal
http://www.facebook.com/cosmagora

** originally written yesterday : **

Hello,
I just slept a couple of hours, I was eager to see the pictures I took this morning of the Venus-Moon-Jupiter conjonction. I decided last evening to observe the event and I decided to go to the top of Mont-Royal in Montreal. I sent an invitation on my science commincation company's facebook page (facebook.com/cosmagora) for people to join me. There was a couple of dozens of persons on the montain. I brought a small telescope on Mont-Royal, we had a spectacular view with the rise of some of the brightest objects in the Sky.

A link to an album with pictures taken during the morning :
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =1&theater

As you can see, there's a lot of light pollution in Montreal ! Even though the montain top is a city park without many light, downtown Montreal is so bright that almost only the planets and the moon are visible.

Quote from an Astronmy Magazyne article : "Quebec is one of the most light-polluted regions on Earth. Satellite images taken during winter 1997 show the city of Montreal suffering the same amount of light pollution as New York City, despite having less than one-quarter its population. Even after taking into account the snow-cover reflection, each person emits 3 times as much light as the average American or European."

I must admit though that all those lights in the city are very beautiful at night, even more from the Mont-Royal belvedaire. The problem is it limits your wonderment to your surrounding vicinity and banished you from the heavens !

Other pictures taken earlier this week :

Note : you don't need a Facebook account to watch those pictures.

Thank you and have a nice day !
