One night, two comets...
The straight and greenish tail of comet Lemmon contrasts with the curved and whitish tail of PanSTARRS as they set behind the Andes, above Bariloche, Argentina. So beautiful! Enjoy it when they move to the Northern hemisphere!

KP6 aurora and pulsating aurora timelapse

Timelapse of a strong KP 6 aurora in the Lofoten Islands, near Laukvik, in Norway, during the night of the 19th-20th January, 2013.
From 00:35 to 01:11, the aurora turned into a "pulsating" aurora : the aurora clouds were blinking.

The winter milky way over "la Roche de Feu" in Brittany, France. We can see Jupiter and Orion which are the "stars" of this winter sky show. Sorry for the bad quality of the compression.

Jellyfish or High Altitude Virga Sunrise
Virga is rain/snow that never reaches ground. In this particular case mid-altitude winds are shearing off the higher altitude clouds rain/snow fall.

Spot the Station – 26 Feb 2013

© Thodoris Tzalavras

Shot this picture from our rooftop in the center of Nicosia, Cyprus—hardly the best place for any sort of astrophotography, but still, the objective was to spot the Station and we had fun doing it!

Back home
http://www.astronomica.es (image direct link, aditional info)
Copyleft: Jaime Fernandez Artistic composition made of three different images:
- Moon, a four images mosaic of the crescent moon, 4,6 days old. Celestron 9.25 f/6.3 + Atik 314.
- Background, a two images mosaic of central galaxy at Sagitarius. DSLR 18/70 lens.
- Earth, based on Apollo 11 imaginery.

That's quite obviuos it's an artistic photo montage, made just for beauty and enjoy.
Stargazer used to observe the moon will quickly found also that the moon will never be seen this way, even from a starship.
Do you know why?... :D

2.38am and the Milky Way rises high above Wellington's South Coast in New Zealand. The single bright light on the horizon under the Milky Way is the Baring Head Lighthouse. The glow of Wellington and the coastal suburbs of Owhiro Bay and Island Bay can be seen to the left of the photo.

The Milky Way and the zodiacal light rises above the famous ”sea of clouds” view of the world heritage site Mount Emei in China. The Milky Way in this wide angle panorama starts from Cassiopeia (left), pass through the three bright stars of Summer Triangle (middle up) ,and ends in Scorpius and Sagittarius (right) where the elongated band of the Zodiacal Light dissolves in the bright bulge of the Milky Way.
