  • Date of observation: 13th / 14th of December 2013
Location: "Tauernwindpark Oberzeiring", 1900m above sea level, Styria / Austria / Europe; link: http://www.tauernwind.com/aktuell/tauern_awebcam.htm
Duration of my observation: from 5pm (13-12-2013) to 5am (14-12-2014).
I exposured approx. 1500 images (focal length: 14mm) and used finally 52 images with geminid meteors to create the fine attached image.
The bright moon was a challenge.

Hey Erich, looks like you are trying to post images directly from your hard drive. Have a look at this thread: http://asterisk.apod.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=22034
Register a username with the forum and then I can set you up to attach files to the forum so we can see them.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

Here you can see the Orion Constellation that I made a 1500 mts height near the town of Àger-Lérida-Spain. The mountain name is Coll d'Ares in the Pre-Pirineus between Spain and France. The weather conditions was perfect, with a good seeing even the Moon was at 33% light, finally I could take after the moonset.

Place: Coll d'Ares-Lleida
Date: 09/12/2013
Mount: Astrotrac
Optics: Tamron 90 mm f / 2.8 ->closed at f / 4
Camera: Canon 5D MarkII mod
Exposures: 15 x 120 seg ISO 1000 + 15 Darks + Master flats and Bias.
Software: PixInsight 1.8

The eye of Perseo
Large version : http://afesan.es/Deepspace/vdB%2018%2CL ... eus%29.jpg

As Greek mythology told us: ....: "So it is that Perseus found the cave of the three Graeae women. The Graeae shared a single eye for all three of them which they constantly fought over..:". Perseus took it.

vdB 18 seems to be a deep , fix eye ,looking impassive....

Sidney van den Bergh's comprehensive catalog of galactic reflection nebulae, published in 1966, contains 158 entries representing nebulosity around BD- and CD-type stars north of -33d and as identified in both red and blue Palomar Sky Survey prints. These entries represent diffuse reflection nebulae which are illuminated by one or more background stars and, in other instances, by the integrated light of the Milky Way.vdB 18 is catalogued as Type II (star outside the nebulosity) and Surface brightness F (Faint). This nebula is rarely imaged (I can´t find any image.. just some widefield ones)..and never detailed. The central star is V496 Per -- Variable Star of alpha2 CVn type. The nebula is surrounded by dust ... dust everywhere from the Lynds Dark nebula LDN 1434 and Lynd´s Bright nebulas LBN 720 and 721.A dozen of galaxies emerge between dust.
