NGC 6337 The Purple Eye Nebula

Post by strongmanmike » Thu Sep 03, 2015 7:31 am

Located snugly within the curve of the Scorpions tail, this rarely imaged planetary nebula is probably overlooked for it's very nearby and more well known neighbour - The Bug Nebula.

The bright central ring of NGC 6337 is only 45" in size or about the same apparent size as the planet Jupiter, the faint outer halo extends out to about 2' though

Boreal
Panorama of the summer sky and Milky Way shining over and also reflected from the calm waters of Bozcaarmut reservoir; which itself is surrounded by boreal forests of Mount Ahi at 1100 meters of elevation. This occasionally visited lakeside with dark skies and also good spots for fishing, camping and barbecue lies near Bozcaarmut village in Bilecik province, which is about 100 km away from my hometown Bursa, Turkey. It is a very good location to run away from the summer heat, which still persists into September this year.

Grand Teton and Big DIpper
www.ancientskys.com
www.facebook.com/AncientSkys
Copyright: Marc Toso Fortunate photograph of the Big Dipper constellation over the Grand Teton. The night was slightly hazy with clouds streaming by all evening. However, I think all of the moisture in the air had the nice effect on the stars, hence the fantastic brightness of the Big Dipper over the Grand Teton.

These affects can be achieved using various fog filters but I was lucky enough to have nature cooperate with me and provide a filter in the form of water vapor.
This is a single exposure taken on a moonless night using the fantastic Rokinon 35mm f/1.4. With the aperture wide open it sucks in tons of light!
