A fisheye image was taken of the amazing five planet alignment in the pre-dawn hours of February 2, 2016. Mercury, Venus, the moon, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter can all be seen in this photograph taken with a Canon T6s and a 8-15 mm f/4L lens.

Just before the dawn
Towards to the old town of Corfu and just above Dasia, the Summer Constalations into the twilight zone with the big Scorpion at the right of the picture.
Also near to Antares, the brighter star of Scorpio is Planet Saturn, down and to the centre is Venus and to the left is Mercury.

Over the past few nights, I've imaged M1 for what is now the umpteenth time.
(See photo http://www.pbase.com/wjshaheen/image/162487227/large.) Just lately, though, I see a feature I've overlooked. There seems to be a vortex/tornado looking feature that stands out, at least to me. It emanates from the center and wraps around toward the 10 o'clock position, as you look at the photo. (Actually, there are several.)

My question is, assuming you see it, has this been noted or observed in the past?

Thanks for looking.

Yeah, I see it in your image, and have seen it before. It seems to be most easily observed at higher energies. X-rays, for instance:
http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2009/crab/
I've linked that because they've got a narrowband optical, infrared, and x-ray version to scale which you can easily swap between.

There have been Hubble observations of this nebula in a mediumband visible wavelength which show it, structurally, much more closer to yours and you can still see the circular structure emanating from the center. (Ignore the colors, there's only one filter here)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/geckzilla/19570369685/

There are also animations of the pulsar wind:
http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2002/0 ... tions.html

Here's a YouTube version if you have trouble playing the video files on that page:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5u5nXZqYq0
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

Dobashi-4298 - undeservedly neglected target in Corona Australis

http://www.irida-observatory.org

Copyright: Velimir Popov, Emil Ivanov

This is a very rarely imaged object. Probably Dobashi-4298 have been imaged by other astronomers but for us was impossible to find any frames in the web.

In 2005 a team of Japanese astronomers leaded by Kazuhito Dobashi used a data from the Digitized Sky Survey I to create a comprehensive catalogue of galactic dark nebulae. This image shows the dark cloud Dobashi-4298. Situated in the constellation of Corona Australis, not far from much more prominent reflection nebulae NGC 6726 and NGC 6727, it is a part of one of the closest star-forming regions to the Solar System - a dusty dark nebula known as the Corona Australis Molecular Cloud, lying about 430 light years away.

Higher resolution: Dobashi-4298
