Universe edge POD proposal

Post by moontrail » Fri Jan 05, 2007 11:30 am

I wonder what will it be the surrounding universe view, from a place near to the universe edge. Let´s say in the farthest galaxies. Does it make sense?

Happy New Year to all!

Another interesting perspective might be to inhabit a planet orbiting a star that itself orbits it's host galaxy at the farthest point out posssible. There would be times that the only lights in the sky at night would be companion planets or other galaxies. and than there would be times when your whole galaxy rotated into view.

not really, but this does: "from a place near to observable universe edge". but then, you should see things not visible from here, so it would probably look just like here, but with stars and galaxies scattered around in different pattern.

Thank you, makc, for your remark about the Observable Universe:

""from a place near to observable universe edge". but then, you should see things not visible from here"

I know I´m just speculating, but If it were possible to iterate this process, to move again near the new observable universe edge, then new "things" will appear. So, if there are just a finite number of "things", at less we move in some kind of circles, is it reasonable to speculate about some kind of edge?.

scientists tend to think no, their favorite model is universe with no edge, where you would return to the same point where you started "if it were possible to iterate this process". this yields reasonable model they can work with. in the end, however, it's only a guesswork; if someone will come up with better way to fit the numbers, they will change their oppinion. so the truth is simply that noone really knows.
