Description: Moon and Venus conjuntion of 15th of June 2010
Ince Minaret Medrese (literally, the medrese with the narrow minaret) is a 13th century medrese (Islamic school) located in Konya, Turkey, and built between 1258-1279 by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate vizier Sâhib Ata Fahreddin Ali who later founded the Anatolian Turkish Beylik of Sâhib Ata.
The building has a highly ornamented stone façade which includes relief work of scripts, geometric patterning and vertical ribbon-like lines. Restored in 1956, the edifice is used today as a museum where stone and wooden artefacts dating from the Seljuk and Ottoman periods are displayed.

You're welcome, thank you for your kindness.

I think my favorite is the Wally Pacholka image, an amazing interplay between "heaven and Earth", so to speak. The way the clouds interact with the starry sky is fantastic. I love the "almost Milky Way-lit" observatory and ground, too, although I assume that this is a double exposure. In any case, it looks great.

Any new pictures from Wally Pacholka are always welcome, as far as I'm concerned. I really like his work, and it just seems to get better. Wally has been a frequent guest at APOD and TWAN and has a lot more fantastic pictures at his site.
All the other nighttime skies of Earth pictures were also very nice.owlice wrote:Palomar Observatory Milky Way Panorama

And, of course, I always like my family portrait.owlice wrote:NGC 2170: Stellar Nursery in Monoceros

But my favorite has to be the Statue of Liberty, partly because I don't recall having seen it before. But it is a really good picture.owlice wrote:Markarian's Chain

Rainer Sparenberg is a new submitter to APOD; I checked out some of the images on his website and cracked my "Oooooo!!" in doing so. <g>
I've got a couple of pics from Australia in the queue and will post them as soon as I have the submitter's permission to do so. Both are good, but one of them I particularly like; it's very cool!

Yeah Alex Cherney ... have to remember that name! Hook this guy up with some APODs! Quiet Lagoon is my favorite.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.
